Islamic Month Safar 2024

Safar is the second month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It follows Muharram and precedes Rabi’ al-Awwal. The name “Safar” means “empty” or “void.” This reflects the ancient Arab practice of leaving their homes empty during this time of year to search for food and sustenance. Safar is a month with a long history. It was important in Arabia before Islam and in the early days of Islam. The Arabs traditionally thought it was a bad month. They thought traveling or starting big projects during Safar would bring bad luck. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that no month or time brings misfortune. Safar is not associated with religious observances or rituals, but some Muslim communities still have cultural practices and superstitions. Some people believe that avoiding certain activities during Safar can prevent misfortune. These beliefs are not Islamic and are discouraged by religious scholars.
